Jakarta, Selatan, Indonesia, 11 October 2004 - Gran Melia Jakarta has achieved the prestigious GREEN GLOBE 21 Benchmarked Certificate under the new GREEN GLOBE 21 Certification program, which recognizes the operation’s commitment to operating at the world’s highest environmental standard.
Gran Melia Jakarta has spent considerable time benchmarking its energy and water consumption, waste production and disposal as well as implementing an integrated environmental and social policy. In particular it has achieved Best Practice in the Potable Water Consumption and Cleaning Chemicals Used performance areas. These measures will deliver ongoing reduction of non-renewable resources, extensive cost savings and secure a sustainable commercial and ecological future for the business.

Like all Green Globe Certified companies, Gran Melia Jakarta has firstly been successfully achieved Benchmarked status and has now further demonstrated its commitment by proceeding to the final and highest level of the Green Globe Program, namely Certification.

ENVIRONMENT COMMITMENT AND POLICY
Gran Meliá Jakarta commits to preserved and maintained as part of the obligations of human beings so that the natural environment could be occupied by present and future generations comfortably at all times.
Therefore, the Management of Hotel Gran Meliá Jakarta adopts Green Globe 21 (GG21) program and implements different concepts to preserve and improve the environment of the hotel and its vicinity, by using the following policy:
- GG21 Committee meets once a month to record, measures and analyse performance and set targets performance against the previous performance so best practiced GG21 can be achieved
- Update & Review the policy procedure and performance of the environment and community involvement to reach the best practice level of GG21 and hotel environment performance. This will be done as a minimum annually.
- Comply with all government legislation and institutional requirements in relation to the environment & community movement in operating the hotel.
- Commit to give special consideration to employ local people for all hotel suppliers and contractors.
- Improved Waste Management program by reducing the amount of waste we produce and save materials, resources, energy and money. In the same time improved the 4R concepts.
- Ensure to prioritise all goods purchased from local origin, that they are environmentally friendly, efficiently package and acceptable to the local culture.
- Provide Continues Environmental Training for Management and staff level to reinforce the importance of preserving Green Environment.
- To make available and communicate GG21 philosophy with Guests, Owners, Suppliers, Media, Stakeholders and hotel surroundings and at the same time improve the standard of living in friendly environment.
- Management Yearly Program should encompass the improvement of hotel environment, staff and guest performance.
- Commit to participate with best practice to the Environment in the tourism sector of Jakarta, Indonesia and International community.
